Naked Ladies OMG!
August 6th, 2008 by Ajay
Day 2 of actually drawing on the cintiq, and it’s even more fun. Why, you ask? In a sketchpad, or on any piece of paper, eventually you make a bad decision and place a drawing badly and ruin any extra space you may have had. Not so anymore! Just zoom in until the free space fills the entire screen and you still have an entire blank page to sketch on! That’s why one or two of the women on this practice piece is made of thinner lines than the others. For these references, I used the (beware: nudity!)Beauty of the Day archive on DOMAI. I’m out of practice, so I’m sure these drawings aren’t as good as they could be, but I’ll get there!
Doodles
August 5th, 2008 by Ajay
As I just got the coolest digital drawing tool in the free world, here are some doodles. Think I finally have a good face for Jesus, too, for a project that has been in the works for a long time. I like the idea of a jesus that’s “with it” just enough to use some swears.
EDIT!
Here’s some panels from a comic I am working on. Just a one shot, 5 or 6 panels at the most. They may or may not ruin the joke(?), but I don’t care, wanted to show it off as I haven’t done anything in ages.
Fábrica de Heróis

Using the little flash app at the bottom of that page, I made Ultra Hitler. I even made him a snazzy logo.
After his right hand betrayed him and attempted to shoot him with his own gun, he had it removed and replaced with an atomic-powered hand created by Ernst Heinkel. Heinkel was working on nuclear powered robots when not researching propulsion for the Luftwaffe and Adolf liked where the future was heading. The atomic power source for the hand is contained in the pack on his back, which, through the miracle of radiation, has caused him to retain his youthful good looks and gain immense strength. He’s still a fan of khaki, but can you blame him when it looks so good? We look forward to seeing him fulfill his potential.
Mall Employees

Haven’t posted anything for a couple days because I haven’t even been home at a decent hour. Been looking at places to live. Also haven’t produced anything at work too good lately either. EXCEPT TODAY! But you’ll have to wait a bit to see it. Brought my Burne Hogarth book to work and tried to make my sketches for the next AIR comic more dynamical. It looks better. Enjoy this for now and leave me some comments. Be constructive.

Hand practice!
June 4th, 2007 by Ajay
Here are a whole bunch of hands. I have a book of hands by Bridgman that is just great. I brought it to work and drew from it trying to figure out why the hands looked the way they do. Then I tried to draw hands on my own. If you look at the hands from comic #48 on through the current comic, #54, you can see how much I’ve improved from the practice and studying. Here are a bunch of my practice slash study pages.
In the first page you can see a better sketch of the layout for comic #54, which turned out better than I expected. It took quite a while to get them tones to look the way they do, which is minimal, but decent. I’m not sure who all those sketches are of in the last 2 pages, other than the girl employee. I did a whole bunch of stuff at work today that I will scan in tomorrow, including the Kuss-tome-airs, and some sad looking fat guy with skinny legs what resembles a woman at work. EWW!
The General Manager

Oooh, spooooky! In my experience, the higher up someone is in managing a retail store, the less actual work they do. They walk around with their blackberry, sending emails to other higher-ups boasting about what trivial actions they forced the peons to do that day.
I’m not sure when I did these sketches, but I like the way he looks. Like a dick. Short-sleeved dress shirt with a tie. Tall. Khakis. *shudder* He’ll always have his blackberry thing with him and always be looking at it. Never making contact with the people that are doing the actual work. He wants you to do all this work, but he doesn’t respect you enough to even make eye contact! Wow, your job sucks.
In the first and third pages there you can see prelim sketches of comics that will appear in the future! Obviously, one is AIR #57, the other is AIR #54 which I have half inked on my drawing table. I’ve redrawn all but 2 panels so far. It has a really great hand in panel 4 though.
Brian Hefawitz
May 30th, 2007 by Ajay
Here are some more sketches. These, in particular, are of Brian Hefawitz. He meets Jonn and Stew when they fall through the hole in the wall and end up in some crazy world with the biggest mall the boys have ever seen. He’s been there a while, it seems, but Danny will correct me if I’m wrong. Brian looks to be in his middle 50s, is losing his hair and has a good paunch going for him… if a big belly can be considered “good.”
The first image there has a couple of things I want to note for you.
A) I don’t know what I was thinking when I drew this guy? Consider it a completely random guy on the road to drawing the GM.
B) A really poor drawing of what is supposed to be the character Evan. Wow.
C) This is Sergei Dmitriov. He is a truck driver in the Roadtripping comic. As soon as Manga Studio arrives I can finish the comic I was working on when the trial ran out and get cracking.
The GM can be seen in the bottom right of the page. I’ll show more of him later.
